Me, acting confused

As I briefly mentioned in my first blog entry, I was given the responsibility to make the senior video. The senior video at my high school started three years ago by John Mingione (now a Junior at SUNY New Paltz). He created a video that was funny, nostalgic, tear-jerking and full of inside jokes…everything one needs to reflect on their high school years! Since then, the video was made by one individual that (a) is capable of making a movie and (b) is able to fairly represent the entire class. This year (right off the heels of Jr. High graduation movie!) I was chosen to create the senior vid here at Ward Melville.

Generally the video is made up of candid interviews and sketches. I’ve been working on filming a fairly extensive sketch for the beginning of this year’s movie. I can’t give away too many details before June 7th,when the movie will be aired on yearbook and DVD yearbook distribution day, however today I filmed a scene that involved several dozen people: a dance party in the hallways.

Onlookers watching as the dance party gets into full swing

One of the things my class has been infamous for is dancing: on Halloween people were dancing in the hallways, people in the cafeteria will randomly bust out into a dance, and to top it off, three of my friends are DJs at events in and out of school. Even though noone means any harm, the administration isn’t always so fond of these antics.

So to pay homage to this, at one point during the sketch I get caught up in a random dance party in the commons, with my DJ friends and all. One week ago, I sent out a facebook message that read:

Be apart of the Senior Movie.

Since our class has been fairly infamous for dancing, a scene involving a dance party in the commons is being filmed next wednesday from 3-3:15pm. Teddy, Andrew, and Justin (TAJ) will be DJ’ing.

This is legit. Mr. Owen has approved this 15 minute dance party, you won’t get in trouble as long as y’all behave.

Anyone who is a senior should come and participate. Not only will you potentially be in the senior movie, you’ll make you senior year memorable. It’s gonna kick ass.

Class of 2010!

Sure enough, the Facebook event ended up getting over 120 ‘attending’ RSVPs and nearly that many people showed up today, either to dance or watch. Although in the past people have gotten in trouble for this type of thing, I did get the dance approved by Mr. Owen, our assistant principal, who supervised and made sure everything went smoothly. I can’t wait to edit the dancing into the senior video, this was definitely one of the more fun shoots I’ve ever done. I don’t often have a ‘cast’ that big to work with! I have so much good footage, I’m really not sure what to do with it all!
