Brookhaven Recycling PSA

The following is a 30-second PSA that I created with my Ward Melville Television club. I blogged about the PSA a while back but never published it.

Today I found out that the PSA won in the 30-second category and is going to be aired on the public TV channel! We also won $500 to spend on video equipment for our school. This is extremely exciting for me and for the rest of the people involved. No details on when it will air but I’ll keep you posted.

Credits: The commercial features my friends Danielle Valdes and Sam Matthew. Danielle created and wore the newspaper dress. Dan Roth helped with production. Kevin Kiriluk and Sam Halleen also contributed. Music is by my friends and school band Hale Eddy.

As the first Multimedia Intern for Times Beacon Record Newspapers, a local community newspaper that distributes papers I’ve been making short video packages highlighting events in the community. This weekend, I went to Stony Brook University’s campus and filmed their Earthstock Festivities. The video was featured on the paper’s homepage.

I’ll be working with TBR through the summer to create more videos, help develop their webpage, and learn more about the newsroom.

Today, New York got over a foot of snow. I wasn’t up for traveling too far out of the house but I did break out my videocamera. I took a few shots from the porch and in the dining room and edited it together to a Sufjan Stevens song.

Filmed and edited on February 10th 2010.

Room 111 Promo Video

In my Advanced Advertising Arts course, I was given one week to put together a video that would be shown to students at my district’s junior high schools to promote the series of courses offered in Room 111, one of the art rooms in Ward Melville HS. I used footage from a promotional video I put together for the Advertising Arts course, footage I was able to get from a former Yearbook student, and new footage filmed by myself and my friend Andrew Visconti. Graphics were created by Justin Suazo. The music is by El Ten Eleven and was used with permission.

A still from The Admissions Game DVD. Filmed January 15th 2010.

I filmed a College Admissions Night Lecture by Dr. Peter Van Buskirk, a former admissions counselor, for the Ward Melville High School Guidance Office. The lecture lasted just over two hours and I cleaned it up so that it would fit on one DVD. Using Compressor and DVD Studio Pro, I created copies of the DVDs for each of the guidance counselors for them to use at their own discretion. Per Dr. Van Buskirk’s allowance the video can not be streamed on the internet, however the video was also divided into six 20-minute parts that were streamed privately on the school district’s website.

This was all done as a volunteer for my school.
